In 2017, I tried to look at ordinary, familiar scenes in a new way.
Some of these photos are the result of long walks, experimenting with my camera (Samsung Galaxy S5), and sorting through handfuls of shots. Some, I took in a passing moment when I caught a glimpse of an interesting composition. Enjoy!
Great Meadows, Field of Dreams - I took this on a very cold, windy day in February, one of about a dozen shots done with my tripod and a hook to suspend the phone. Of course, this meant I had to take my hands out of their gloves every 5 minutes so I could touch the screen. An oily smudge on the lens made the original version a bit unusable, but some edits and a depth-mapped lens blur made the mistake almost "fit in".
Panorama - This is heavily edited, but only to mimic what you would really see at this time of day. Here, spray and mist often make the air glow purple or deep red, but on this evening the sky was almost clear. I did some manual HDR toning, color adjustment, and painted out a contrail that was making an awkward tangent line with the lighthouse.
